Whenever people have asked me how I have felt over Caroline's illness, I have told them that I know we have won the war, it is the battle to win that war, that is the struggle. This and all the prayers and support of all you have kept Caroline and I going. Today we got further confirmation of that victory.
The multi-disciplinary medical team who are looking after her, met this morning and looked at the results of the pathology (Post-mortem) done on her stomach and lymph nodes. They could find no cancer cells in the lymph nodes and found it extremely hard to find cancer cells in her stomach, except around the polyps. This confirms the positive prognosis and Caroline will not need any chemotherapy. This is just simply amazing news. Caroline rang me as soon as she knew. I happened to be shopping at Tesco's and I just felt crying for joy and relief.
Of course we still have the battle for recovery to go through. It will take some time for Caroline to get back to normal as possible. She still gets tired and still suffers from heartburn, but she is walking (slowly) and eating and drinking small amounts normally. Mr Botha (the surgeon) felt her abdomen (I nearly wrote stomach!) and is happy with how the wounds are healing. It may be possible that she returns home this Monday!!.
More Good News.............
Within half an hour of this news, we received a letter informing us that Nathan has got a place at his first choice school, Archbishop Tenison's at the Kennington Oval. We know that this will be a great relief to us all, but even more to Nathan, who was very worried and anxious that he would not even get an offer!!!
I will naturally keep you up to date, keep praying. To quote Winston Churchill This is the beginning of the end and we may allow ourselves a brief moment of rejoicing (I would wish to add: a flipping big moment of rejoicing!!)
